PERM ENGINE BUILDING FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS

On July 11, 2009, a conference called «Russian Engine Building: Future Development in the Current Period», arranged to coincide with the celebration of the 75-th anniversary of Perm Motors, took place in the Perm Philarmonic Organ Hall.
In the conference Stanislav Naumov, State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of the RF, Andrey Reus, General Director of Oboronprom United Industrial Corporation OJSC, Oleg Chirkunov, Governor of the Perm region, Sergei Galperin, Deputy General Director, Civil Aircraft Programs Management of UAC Management Company Ltd, Alexander Shaikhutdinov, Deputy Head of Department for Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization, Gazprom OJSC, Alexander Inozemtsev, Managing Director - General Designer, Aviadvigatel OJSC, Mikhail D. Dicheskul, Managing Director of Perm Engine Co. and technologically related companies, Vasily Petrov, Perm State Technical University rector took part.

The main subject of discussion was the role of Perm engine building enterprises in the domestic aero engine-building development. According to S. Naumov «in the foreseeable future the key priority of the RF Ministery of Trade and Industry activity will surely be the support of a breakthrough aviation engine- building project, initiated last year by United Engine Corporation OJSC. The leading role in this project implementation justly belongs to Perm engine-builders».
Conference participants admitted unanimously that in spite of the Russian Aviation Industry successeful development in recent years, it still lags behind the western manufactures. At present Russian Aviation Industry is in great necessity of Russian aircraft and engines.
A. Reus presented to the participants a development strategy of Oboronprom United Industrial Corporation and noted that «aviation and engine building is a very serious industrial cooperation and it is a link that enables machine building to be kept as a class in Russia». According to the General Director of Oboronprom United Industrial Corporation OJSC, Perm engine builders should apply maximum efforts to increase the production level in several times, to ensure quality and reliability of gas turbine equipment.
A. Inozemtzev, General Designer of Aviadvigatel OJSC, presented to the conference participants one of the priority projects realization program aimed at aircraft and industrial engines family development on the basis of a unified gas generator. The conference participants learnt in detail the program management principals, already implemented stages, next and long-term perspectives.
Information on products, current state of production, sales and perspectives of Perm Engine Company, OJSC, was presented to the participants in a presentation of Mikhail Dicheskul, Managing Director of Perm Engine Co. and technologically related companies.
The breakthrough in Perm engine building development is utterly impossible without scientific and research support. It will be provided by Perm State Technical University. On its basis it is planned to establish the National research university of aviation engine building. Vasily Petrov, Perm State Technical University rector, told about conceptual aspects of this project.
Great interest was provoked by speaking of A. Shaikhutdinov and S. Galperin being direct customers and operators of Perm gas turbine equipment.
In spite of inevitable problems Perm engine builders have excellent opportunities for development. Aviation and gas industry are going to boost Russian modern aircraft production and to expand gas pipeline network. It means that demand for aero engines and industrial gas turbines will grow. The future of Perm engine building depends on results of the program implementation aimed at development of the engine family on the basis of the unified gas generator.
