A successful assessment of Aviadvigatel's strength test laboratory took place in September 2008.

Tamara Skrypnik, Chairperson of the assessment committee and engineer of the metrological services department of the Perm Center for Standardizing, Metrology and Certification federal state institution noted: «It is gratifying that such knowledge-oriented enterprise as Aviadvigatel remains committed to the development of science-intensive production. The purchase of new testing equipment for determining strength properties of various materials used in developing aviation and industrial gas turbine engines is a token of the company's intellectual sustainability. But buying equipment is only a half of the whole affair. High skill level of the specialists operating and servicing the new equipment should also be noted, as well as an excellent condition of the laboratory itself. Science is always advancing, and Aviadvigatel advances with it. Such improvement pleases both the manufacturers and us, ordinary people, because it brings even better quality and reliability of the equipment produced».

Assessment committee analyzed the conditions of performing sample test quality control applicable to mechanical test of materials, condition of measuring, testing and auxiliary equipment.

New electromechanical machine LFMZ100 was brought to the committee's notice. This testing machine with the loading capacity of up to 10 ton-force is designed for determining short-term material capabilities and for testing samples for low-cycle fatigue. Experimental test of short-term strength and plasticity during tensile testing at normal temperature was made in the course of the assessment. EP741NP heat resistant nickel alloy (per TU 1-80901123-2002) was chosen as a test subject. Test control results showed that material capability of the sample corresponded with the specified standards.

The assessment committee concluded that Aviadvigatel, OJSC strength test laboratory has the conditions required for performing measurements throughout the whole sphere of operation allocated to it.

For the design company, it means that within 3 years the laboratory will continue its research in the area of material strength properties. It should be noted that to date it is one of the most high-priority lines of activity related to the advanced third strategy of engine endurance management.
