GT Engines and IGTs Diagnostics
UEC-Aviadvigatel works systematically to ensure high reliability of aircraft and ground GT engines, its safe operation, develops engine monitoring and diagnostics techniques and requirements for ground and onboard monitoring and diagnostic systems, provides consulting services in diagnostic support for its engines.
In order to ensure better performance of PS-90A engine family, automated ASD-Diagnoz-90 and SDD-90 monitoring systems based on the flight data processing algorithm created by UEC-Aviadvigatel are used.
Ground flight data processing algorithms ensure control of the engine systems status, trend analysis, as well as help to predict and make up recommendations on comments and remedial actions.
Ground maintenance personnel of an airline using ASD-Diagnoz-90 and SDD-90 monitoring systems controls on a regular basis the engine fleet technical status, thus reducing significantly engine operation and maintenance costs as well as enhancing a flight safety.
UEC-Aviadvigatel has the overall processed flight database for PS-90A and its versions which is constantly updated with a new information since 1994. This allows Design Bureau specialists to promptly respond to the emerging request from operators for fault detection recommendations and take a decision on further operation of the engine. Specially developed software is used for such purposes enabling in-depth analysis of the parametrical data to be performed.
UEC-Aviadvigatel is traditionally committed to the safe, reliable and high-performance operation of gas turbine units it develops. In addition to the design study this is ensured through the use of protection systems, on-line control and automated diagnostics systems for IGTs.
High testability of IGTs and use of digital automatic control systems to control IGTs, Gas Compressor Units and Gensets allow to use parametric data for the efficient diagnostics of the technical status of IGTs in service.
UEC-Aviadvigatel specialists have developed algorithms to automatically monitor the IGT systems status with a possibility for these algorithms to be made in a form of a software for use in service.
At the moment UEC-Aviadvigatel has parametrical diagnostics for Genset IGTs under development tests. This system can be adjusted to use in projects of various application.
Some Gazprom facilities at the participation of UEC-Aviadvigatel have introduced an ASDO-PMD subsystem for engine parametrical diagnostics that allows the technical status of engines to be automatically determined according to the measured parameter values derived from the gas compressor automatic control system. The number of facilities using such subsystem is constantly increasing.
UEC-Aviadvigatel has acquired extensive experience while using and supporting the development GT engines status diagnostic techniques based on debris of parts exposed to oil as well as while creating fault detection and correction procedure when the content of debris is high and there are chips in oil.
Technical status of aero engines is monitored by means of built-in chip detectors, magnetic plugs and spectrum analysis of oil samples. UEC-Aviadvigatel has manufactured and uses a test rig to test these devices, which simulates oil system of the engine with forced input of particles of given size and properties to verify the device efficiency. Such works can be performed for different GT engine manufacturers.
With PS-90A operators the oil spectrum analysis is carried out by means of state-of-the-industry Prizma and Spectroscan spectrometers that also allow to determine a material grade of chips in case of detection.
UEC-Aviadvigatel has developed an advanced technology of PS-90A-family engine technical evaluation by wear particles using SAM-DT, a high-information atomic emission (scintillation) spectrometer. This technology provides more effective operation compared to conventional methods.
As for the industrial GT Units, taking into consideration its specific application, the main technical control of parts drowned in oil consists of an alarm system that not only detects chips in oil but also automatically stops the equipment, if necessary.
UEC-Aviadvigatel continues its works to enhance the tribodiagnostics performance. Some Gazprom facilities at the participation of UEC-Aviadvigatel have introduced ASDO-TD, a built-in wear particle control subsystem able either detect particles or make an on-line quantitative and qualitative evaluation of wear particles (their size, magnetic behavior). The subsystem passed interdepartmental tests and was recommended for use; now it is under preparation in order to be mounted on a number of new facilities.
